audience
for this I made an Instagram page for my Instagram page and made various polls about what my following would like to see in a fashion magazine, the results for these polls influenced the creation of my coursework as I tried to base my magazine and website off this
"would you prefer normal people modelling on the magazine or super model look alikes?"
78% votes normal people, the rest voted supermodel type models
"do you prefer sparse looking magazines or ones full of sell lines on the front cover?"
92% sparse, 8% sell lines
"would you prefer 2 different girls on each cover with different ethnic backgrounds, or a boy and a girl?"
74% boy and girl, 26% girl and girl
I also spoke to people in my year that fit in the brief age demographic and asked if they would prefer a typically sophisticated magazine that demonstrates stereotypical traits associated with sophistication, or leave the sophistication up to the reader, they all said they prefer a more minimalistic cover that focuses more on the photo and the clothes showcased rather than the front cover packed with sell lines, and leave the idea of sophistication up to the reader. I spoke to many of my focus group feel that modern magazines, are trying to drag them away from their youth, and they wanted to see something that is playful and more colorful magazines and pairing websites.
I also asked people if they would prefer to see models, or that I capture images of people that are like them, "normal" people, the majority said that they wanted people who were like them so it was realistic, this is why I used my friends
the majority out of the range of people I spoke to said they prefer reading magazines with an urban and youthful feel to them.

www.dazeddigital.com

www.unifclothing.com
www.thrashermagazine.com
I really like the clothing items displayed on unif and I feel like the fashion is more interesting to capture images of, I wanted to use items as similar to this clothing style as I could. when taking pictures of my male models, I based my fashion toward skate culture fashion I tried to be as effective as I could when capturing my images based off these "alternative" fashion ideas. I have broken the convention as I feel that the fashion I have picked sometimes isn't prominent in mainstream media, like the larger fashion magazines. typically front covers of magazines are most of the time chaotic regarding text and what is displayed on it , I've tried to keep my front covers fairly minimal to focus more on the fashion I photographed, this style of front cover is sometimes done on both magazines I took inspiration off (dazed & wonderland).
I tried to take a range of pictures with a range of models to include on the website to convey the idea that I was trying to show in my front cover and contents page. particularly in my female edition contents page I have broke away from conventions as it is not typically what a contents page looks like

statement of intent
product 1 (Fashion
Magazine)
With my magazine I would like to create something with a more urban feel to the fashion I will take pictures of, this type of fashion is not as publicized in mainstream media as frequently as high end fashion looks. I would like to take inspiration from y2k early 2000's trend and skateboarding fashion. I will focus on the clothes, but will also include some aspects of diversity to allow me to fulfil the brief for the coursework ‘At least two models representing at least two different social groups’ I am going to use a girl and a boy on each magazine, to capture the biggest audience possible.
My main focus will be on attracting a youthful audience who are interested in style that they can identify with and afford. The age demographic 16-25 AB may be sophisticated but what they read may not seem as obviously sophisticated.
I want the layout and design to be clear but also interesting enough to engage the target demographic. My focus group have said that they prefer to see models that are close to them in age and to see fashion that is less about aspiration and more about things that they could realistically wear. in the brief it states that my magazine age demographic is 16-25 AB, it must exude an idea of sophistication to match the AB.The concept of sophistication, is somewhat unclear, and arguably my audience may be sophisticated but will not want to look at a magazine that is obviously sophisticated (eg. vogue) as it has connotations of maturity, which goes against the age demographic chosen in the brief. In my magazine I want to play on the idea of nostalgia and create a more childlike tone, on the contents by adding a variation of color and texture. many of my focus group feel that modern magazines, are trying to drag them away from their youth, and they wanted to see something that is playful and more colorful. However, I want to keep my front covers more minimalist and sophistication so I have two very different ideas that I have interpreted with the idea of sophistication in mind.
product 2 (Accompanying Website)
One of my missions is to engage with the target audience to give them representations they feel they can identify with and so I am going to use the interview to help them see the models as real people like the audience by asking simple personal questions. Like, a short text interview with some or all of the models I have used in my front covers, a boy and a girl, extras id like to make it as realistic to website as possible. I want to strive to make the website feel modern, clean as well as have the photos that show what my magazine is about, and link to the theme of sophistication being an interpretation for the viewer. Similarly with the magazine, my audience said with the website as well that they would like to see a more colorful and playful website again unlike other magazines (eg. vogue).

How do you
intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and
understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx.
100 words)
My website will have very similar ideas to my magazines but with some extended features id like these to tie together successfully with my magazine by keeping with the minimalist style I will showcase on my front cover. it will have my mission statement, and gallery of pictures I did not use on my front covers or contents pages

'Research - Codes and Conventions'
codes and conventions
All fashion magazines have certain features in common that enable the audience to recognize their genre easily. I made a list of the codes and conventions of fashion magazines in order to make my own magazine more realistic.
- Articles on health and diet, fashion tips, sex, agony aunt and reader stories.
- Celebrities, models or aspirational figures, on the front cover.can also be normal people show cased in fashion
- Main image on top, or underneath the masthead.
- Color scheme changes with season. Normally from 3 to 4 bright, strong colors, that stand out and will catch the potential readers eye.
- Main image of the model pictured, which the main story in the magazine is usually about.
- Tag on top of masthead with magazine ranking.
- Direct mode of address.
- Main sell-line in the left, bottom corner of front corner.
- Quotes from interviews as sell lines.
- Barcode, date and magazine webpage are included.
- Discounts and puff with magazine price.
- 2 types of font, bold letters and capital letters used for effect.
- Signs such as exclamations and plus signs are used.
- Big, bold masthead on top of the front cover.
- Social media and apps are featured.
- Double spread pages have a big image and the title of the article in one page and the writing on the next page.
- Separate colored star bursts are included in double spreads with additional information and secondary images are often featured
- mask head, which is the "wonderland."
- there is a stand first , which is the actor pictured name, not the typical "sell line" but the use of it still interests possibly readers as it is an aspirational figure
- and below the stand first there is a strapline, which is a list of other names includes in the magazine to help sell the magazine through the use of aspirational figures
- there is also plugs, which is placed on the outsides of the magazine, to convince the reader to turn over. In this case it is at the bottom in the centre
- the front cover itself is fairly minimal so it is missing a few of the major codes and conventions, like secondary lines, side bars, box out

pictures I like, and would loosely base my covers and website pictures off, for inspiration
